Credits and Grading System

The degree programme in Pharmacy leads to the degree of Pharmacy (laurea in Farmacia), which corresponds to Pharmacy 5-year MPharm degree in Anglo-american countries. The instruction in the degree programme in pharmacy emphasizes the regular updating of knowledge and has a strong connection to scientific research. The contents of instruction are fully in line with the intended learning outcomes, and they are under constant evaluation and development. All education in the University of Tor Vergata is based on The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which facilitates international transparency and recognition of degrees at an international level. The education in the University is monitored through various quality assurance systems in order to enhance quality and improve international comparability.

1 ECTS credit corresponds to 1 Credito Formativo Universitario (CFU) that  amounts, as for the ECTS credit, to 25 hours of work allocated as follows:

      • 8 hours of lectures + 17 hours of self-study;
      • 16 hours of laboratory/practical work + 9 hours of self-study;
      • 25 hours training activity and internship.

Credits are gained by passing end-of-course exams, independent of the marks attained. The number of  credits awarded depends  on  the  type  and  on the  duration  of  the  chosen programme of study and on the workload (including the independent study and (if necessary internships/work placements) required to achieve expected  learning  out-comes.

An academic year of study corresponds to 60 credits, equivalent to about 1,500 hours of work among lectures, self-study, laboratory, internship, ptractical work, etc.)

According to the Italian Degree study cycles, students are required to award 300 credits to complete Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico (single-cycle degree – 5 years)
